Ranking Rules
-
The ranking position of a player is automatically determined by participating in the HFAC Squash Box League. No additional matches can or need to be played in order to become ranked. Only official box league matches count toward ranking.
-
To become ranked, players are awarded Scores for each match they play which contribute to each player's Average Score. The Score received for a match is determined by the the number of games won and the Player Rank of both participating players.
(A) Score = 1000/1188 * (Player Rank 1 + Player Rank 2) * Games Won
The Player Ranks are taken from the latest ranking which is usually the ranking of the previous month. The ranking is updated at the end of the month after all box matches are completed. E.g. to determine the Scores for August, the Player Ranks of July are used. The details of Player Rank is explained below.
-
If a player does not win any games during a match, he does not earn any points for that match. There is no penalty for loosing games. It only matters how many games a player has won.
- Scores are only awarded for actually played games. Box league results due to no-show or injury do not contribute.
-
At the end of the month an Average Score for each player is computed which determines the relative rank position. The player with the highest Average Score gets the highest rank position.
(B) Average Score = Average of 8 best Scores in last 9 months
-
In order to be ranked and receive an Average Score a player needs to have played a minimum of 8 matches during the last 9 month.
-
The Average Score is defined as the average of the 8 best scores during the last 9 month. If a player has not been awarded 8 scores in that time period, the Average Score is determined by just averaging the awarded Scores. If no Scores have been awarded during the last 9 month the Average Score is zero.
-
The value of the Player Rank in equation (A) is determined by the ranking position set by the Average Scores. The Player Rank of the top position is 200. Subsequent positions receive a Player Rank reduced by increments of 4: 196, 192, 188, ...
(C) Player Rank = 200 - 4 * (Position - 1)
- Average Scores are rounded to the nearest integer. If two players have the same Average Score their position and Player Rank is the same.
- Matches involving unranked players are treated in a special way. If an unranked player plays a ranked player the Player Rank of the unranked player is set to 4 points less than the rank of the ranked player when computing the Score for the unranked player. In contrast, when determining the Score for the ranked player the unranked Player Rank is assumed to be 4 points less than the overall lowest ranked player. If two unranked players play each other they are treated equally using a Player Rank 4 points less than the overall lowest ranked player for both.
